There’s this term floating around social media right now. The term is called “that girl” or “becoming that girl”. To be perfectly honest, I really try not to get caught up in what the younger generation is up to. I’m just around the bend to 50, and long past the days of wanting to be “that girl”, which sounds like everyone trying to be the same exact version of something that looks like perfection. Gone are the days of trying to be perfect. Now, at age 47, I prefer to be me. Whatever that looks like. But I digress, and want to dig into the idea of being “that girl” at any age.
Perhaps an image of a confident, successful young woman who seems to have it all together. But what does it really mean to become “that girl,” and how can you cultivate the qualities that embody this ideal?
In this post, I’m going to explore the concept of “that girl” and offer some tips and resources for becoming the best version of yourself – at any age. Even 50.
At its core, becoming “that girl” is about embodying confidence, positivity, and success. This can include everything from your personal relationships to your career and creative pursuits. But being “that girl” isn’t just about external achievements – it’s also about cultivating a sense of self-love, self-care, and personal growth that allows you to thrive. And to be honest, that’s what I really resonate with at this time in my life.
One of the keys to becoming “that girl” is learning to love and care for yourself. This means taking time to prioritize your own needs and well-being. Whether that means practicing self-care rituals like taking a relaxing bath or spending time in nature. It could also look like setting boundaries to protect your mental and emotional health. By cultivating a sense of self-love and sprinkling in (guiltfree) self-care, you’ll be better equipped to navigate life’s challenges with grace and confidence.
Another important aspect of becoming “that girl” is setting goals and working hard to achieve them. This part really resonates with me because I do feel like every decade, I reinvent myself. At the beginning of the renewal process, I set new goals. Then over the next few years I work hard at achieving them.
For my readers out there who feel like becoming “that girl” was for the younger generation, it most certainly is not!
If you’re looking for resources to help you become “that girl,” here are a few amazing books that I have read, and re-read (because they are THAT good!). They give great advice to becoming the BEST version of yourself … to be “that girl”. In no particular order:
Social media put a label on the concept, “that girl”, that I have been working on for years. I love that it has a name, and that I can share it with you (in case you are not on the same social apps I’m on, or have a totally different algorithm than me). And contrary to popular belief, becoming “that girl” isn’t about conforming to anyone else’s standards or expectations. It’s about embracing your own unique strengths and qualities, and cultivating the confidence and positivity to pursue your dreams. By prioritizing self-love, setting goals, and taking risks, you can become the best version of yourself and live a life of fulfillment and success.
